
Eighty-six grams. That is how much frame weight Santa Cruz shaved off the seventh-generation Nomad, and it is one of the few numbers on the spec sheet that actually changed. Look at the Santa Cruz Nomad 7 geometry table next to the outgoing bike and you could be forgiven for thinking nothing happened. The head angle is a fraction slacker, the seat tube a touch steeper, and almost everything else carries over. The real work on the MY27 Nomad went somewhere a geometry chart cannot show you: the leverage curve.
That makes this a more interesting bike to write about than another “longer and slacker” launch. Santa Cruz decided the geometry was close to finished and spent its engineering budget on how the 170mm of travel behaves. Here is what moved, what stayed, and what it means when the trail points down.
What the numbers say

The Nomad 7 keeps 170mm of rear travel driven by the lower-link-mounted VPP layout, paired with a 170mm fork. It stays mullet-only, a 29in wheel up front and a 27.5in out back, with clearance for a 27.5×2.5in rear tire. Wheels front and rear, travel, and the 148mm Boost rear spacing all carry over from the sixth-generation bike that ran from 2022 through 2026.

Flip the lower-link chip to the low position and the head angle drops to 63.3°, the bottom bracket sinks a few millimetres, and reach shortens by roughly 3mm. It is the same subtle adjustment Santa Cruz has offered for years, useful for dialing in a bike park week without touching the fork.
Two details are worth pulling out. First, the chainstays grow with frame size, from 439mm on the S to 450mm on the XXL. That is Santa Cruz keeping the front-to-rear weight balance consistent as reach stretches, so an XXL rider is not perpetually fighting to weight the front wheel. Second, the head angle is now 63.6° in the high setting versus the roughly 63.8° of the previous generation. Half a degree of nothing, in isolation. It matters more as a signal that Santa Cruz thinks the Nomad’s descending stance is basically right.
The seat angle is the quiet upgrade

The effective seat tube angle steepens to about 77.4°, bringing the Nomad in line with the Bullit, the brand’s e-enduro platform. On a 170mm bike that spends real time climbing to the top of the descent, that number does more day to day than the head angle does.
A steeper seat angle rotates your hips forward and stacks them closer to over the bottom bracket. On a steep fire road climb, that keeps the front wheel planted instead of wandering, and it takes strain off your lower back because you are not reaching forward to the bars. Enduro bikes have crept from the low-73° range a decade ago into the high-77s and low-78s, and the Nomad joining that group removes one of the last complaints about the older frame’s seated climbing position.
For taller riders, the interaction between seat angle and reach is the thing to watch. As you run the seatpost higher, the effective seat angle slackens, which pushes your hips rearward and lengthens your effective cockpit. A 6ft 4in rider on the XXL with its 520mm reach and 450mm chainstay is getting a genuinely long, balanced platform rather than a stretched medium, which has not always been true of enduro bikes at the top of the size run.
Where Santa Cruz actually spent the engineering budget
Strip the paint off and the story is kinematic. Santa Cruz reworked three things on the Nomad 7, and none of them appear on a geometry chart.
Anti-squat is down again from the already-lowered sixth-generation figure. Anti-squat is the pedaling force that resists suspension compression; a lot of it makes a bike feel efficient and taut, but too much makes the rear suspension harsh over square-edge hits because pedaling and bump absorption fight each other. Dropping it lets the wheel move more freely into holes and ledges, so the Nomad tracks the ground instead of skipping across it.
Anti-rise is also lower, which governs how much the suspension stiffens under braking. Less anti-rise means the rear stays more active when you are hard on the brakes into a rough corner, so the bike settles rather than standing up and losing grip. On a bike built to be ridden fast into steep, chundery corners, that is exactly where you want the suspension awake.
Finally, the leverage curve was smoothed and made slightly less progressive. That is Santa Cruz leaning into the coil shocks the bike ships with. Several builds arrive with a coil out back, and a less progressive leverage rate pairs naturally with a coil spring’s linear feel, giving supple small-bump sensitivity and a bottomless-enough end stroke without needing a heavily ramped air can. If you have wondered why two 170mm bikes with identical travel can feel completely different, this is the answer, and it is why the difference between a good geometry chart and a good bike comes down to what the linkage does with the numbers.
Frame, storage, and the build range
The Nomad 7 frame is carbon CC only this time, simplifying the range down from the previous C and CC split. Santa Cruz kept the Glovebox downtube storage and updated the latch, and added accessory mounts on the top tube for a strap or tool. The frame uses a 73mm threaded bottom bracket, a 44mm fork offset, and a 230x65mm shock, and it carries the brand’s lifetime frame and bearing warranty.
US pricing runs from the Nomad 90 build at $6,099 up to the X0 AXS RSV at $9,499, with a frame-only option at $3,999. The 90 build is the sensible-money pick: a RockShox Zeb Select fork and Super Deluxe shock, SRAM’s 90 Eagle T-Type transmission, Maven Base brakes on 200mm rotors, and Reserve alloy rims. Complete bikes start around 15.3kg (33.8lb), which for a coil-sprung 170mm mullet enduro bike is entirely reasonable.
Who the Nomad 7 is for
The Nomad has always sat at the gravity end of the Santa Cruz trail lineup, and the seventh generation does not change that brief. It is the bike for riders who ride lifts, shuttle, or grind up to descend the nastiest thing on the mountain. If you want a lighter, more pedal-happy 29er, the Megatower is the stablemate to look at. If you want the shorter-travel do-everything mullet, that is the Bronson. The Nomad is the one you buy when the descent is the whole point.
What is genuinely refreshing is a brand resisting the urge to chase headline geometry numbers. The long-and-slack era has largely run its course, and the interesting work in 2026 is happening in kinematics, spec, and size-specific balance rather than in ever-lower head angles. The Nomad 7 is a clean example: the chart looks like a rounding error, but the bike underneath it is meaningfully different to ride. If you are cross-shopping this against the current crop of enduro bikes, judge it on the suspension feel and the coil-friendly tune, not on a geometry table that Santa Cruz deliberately left mostly alone.
